Uncharted The Lost Legacy marks Naughty Dog’s inaugural spinoff adventure without Nathan Drake, with players following Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross on a race to recover the Tusk of Ganesha from an antagonist warlord.
At PSX 2016, Creative Director Shaun Escayg shared several plot and setting details. Here are the most noteworthy highlights:
Chloe’s Hijab
Today at PlayStation Experience keynote event, Naughty Dog displayed a brief segment of gameplay for Uncharted The Lost Legacy. In the video, a young woman can be seen sneaking through a warzone while wearing a hijab before she removes her covering to reveal Chloe Frazer from Uncharted 2. Her hunt for Tusk of Ganesha (an Indian artifact) forms the core theme for this new title.

Early this month, the company released a trailer for The Lost Legacy which shows Nadine Ross, another one of Drake’s mercenaries, alongside Chloe as treasure hunters battling deadly adversaries and epic set pieces – seemingly similar to how this franchise works with its signature mix of banter, depth characterization and adrenaline-charged action sequences. Fans can expect the same fun, humorous dialogue and nonstop action action they loved from its predecessors.
Uncharted The Lost Legacy will take place six months post-A Thief’s End, according to creative Director Shaun Escayg who told Games Informer (GI). Chloe and Nadine may encounter characters from prior games – though not Drake himself – while their story progresses further in Uncharted: The Lost Legacy’s standalone chapter.
Naughty Dog has announced that its upcoming Uncharted The Lost Legacy game will bring players back to its roots, offering wide and open world environments, high definition graphics and an uninterrupted frame rate. Certain effects like rain, foliage and transparency may cause frame rates to temporarily drop; however most gameplay scenes remain locked at 30 frames per second.
Uncharted The Lost Legacy will feature elements of mystery and exploration while introducing exciting gameplay mechanics such as the silenced pistol. Furthermore, its story will draw from Hindu culture and history as well as Hoysala empire’s dominance of India during medieval period.
Since its announcement, The Lost Legacy has received widespread critical acclaim and many critics are hailing it as one of the year’s finest games. Its stunning visuals and exciting action will draw players of all ages into its world; however, some might find the shorter narrative challenge too overwhelming for their tastes.
The Tusk of Ganesha
The Lost Legacy’s main plot takes place in India, where treasure hunter Chloe Frazer and mercenary Nadine Ross are searching for an ancient tusk considered sacred in Hinduism; its true worth, however, lies in being one of only remaining pieces left from Chloe’s father who gave up military pursuits to pursue archaeology instead.
Asav is a cruel warlord and wants the Tusk of Ganesha for personal gain; Nadine and Chloe manage to obtain from insurgents a map pinpointing its location before venturing off through Hoysala Empire ruins to search for it.
However, despite their differences, the two quickly grow close as they explore and shoot at villains. Soon enough they learn of Asav’s competition for an ancient trinket prize; she seems willing to do whatever is necessary in order to obtain it.
Naughty Dog’s development team for The Lost Legacy’s single-player narrative took many lessons learned from Uncharted 4’s multiplayer suite and implemented them in its single player narrative. Furthermore, they plan to implement more puzzles and environmental gameplay elements; including its first lockpicking minigame which challenges players to think creatively while using their environment to their advantage – an idea so important to Naughty Dog that they even invested in real lockpicking kits to practice on before creating it in-game!
Moreover, The Lost Legacy’s large levels will provide more room for exploration and rummaging than they might expect from a linear shooter. The developers hope to branch out into more open areas that allow players to freely move around while exploring deeper into its lore – with vehicle and climbing mechanics remaining intact as well.
Naughty Dog considered adding another character from the Uncharted universe, but ultimately decided on Chloe for multiple reasons. First and foremost, she is a fan favorite with an incomplete backstory yet. Additionally, Naughty Dog felt that Sam or Cassie Drake might be too young for engaging in combat sequences typical to this series.
The Final Battle
After Nathan Drake’s farewell in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, many wondered whether Naughty Dog’s signature action-adventure franchise would continue. While that answer is yes, but not with him in it anymore; rather it will explore Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross, two mercenary treasure hunters, in The Lost Legacy; this year-old spinoff. Game Informer took a hands-on look at The Lost Legacy to reveal some key gameplay and plot details!
The story will take place six months to one year after Uncharted 4, and focus on the siblings’ search for an ancient Indian treasure. Much like past entries, The Lost Legacy will combine shooting, puzzle-solving and storytelling elements with death-defying platforming that made its predecessors so memorable. Furthermore, The Lost Legacy will include an unsavory character hunting down and narrowly escaping death at every step en route to an exciting climax.
Naughty Dog is adding numerous fan-requested mechanics into The Lost Legacy that were requested by players, such as a lockpicking minigame and an abundance of side content such as special combat encounters, dialogue options, and collectibles. Furthermore, Chloe will use her jeep with its winch equipped to help navigate her surroundings more easily.
While Uncharted will still offer many of its trademark elements, both characters and plot have undergone significant revision. This is particularly apparent with Chloe and Nadine, the focus of the story. Their relationship has undergone profound change from past protagonists’ slapstick exchanges towards one with more chemistry and cerebral overtones.
Sony will release The Lost Legacy as part of the Uncharted: The Legacy of Thieves Collection on PlayStation 5 this January. Sony has not provided pricing or upgrade details, though PC players will be able to play The Lost Legacy via Steam or Epic Game Store. Plus, anyone purchasing it before February 3, 2022 will get a voucher redeemable against viewing of Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg in Uncharted movie!
The Treasure Hunt
As Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End concluded, Naughty Dog announced it wouldn’t stop there with its Uncharted franchise. Instead, this year they are unveiling new hero Chloe Frazer who teams up with Nadine Ross from The Lost Legacy spinoff game; their promise being a more grounded narrative while still keeping beloved elements.

One of the key aspects of The Lost Legacy’s combat will be silent pistols – an innovative new element to the series which allows players to take out enemies from a distance without drawing attention to themselves and thus make it much harder for enemies to catch you off guard. Furthermore, The Lost Legacy features an expanded inventory with more weapons and items for solving puzzles, along with new minigames like lockpicking. Plus there will be special combat encounters and dialogue options!
Uncharted 4 featured several large environments such as Madagascar; in The Lost Legacy players will travel to a rural mountain range in India known as Western Ghats which includes jungles, temples and more. Furthermore, The Lost Legacy features more vehicles than any previous installment; players can explore this vast world in jeeps capable of driving on water, mud or rock surfaces.
Finally, the team is incorporating gameplay elements from Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid 5 into The Lost Legacy. Players will be able to explore a large Indian ruin and search for various objectives such as enemy fortifications and bonus trophies while taking advantage of multiple camera modes that will capture each stage from different perspectives.
Naughty Dog has announced The Lost Legacy is set to release on PS4 later this August and shared more details during a livestream this afternoon, including confirmation that there will be a multiplayer mode included with it.
