Lifetime Liberty Pass
Starting April 1st, New York veterans and Gold Star parents, spouses or children residing within the state can access state parks, campgrounds, day use areas and historic sites at no cost through Governor Kathy Hochul’s expanded Lifetime Liberty Pass program. She signed this expansion among many initiatives since hosting a summit for Veterans last March.
In order to qualify for a Lifetime Liberty Pass in New York State, an individual must have at least 40% service-connected disability and reside there. They also need an active or former military ID card or NYS DMV photo document showing veteran status designation. Eligibility will begin Monday.
This program offers benefits such as free vehicle entry to State Parks and Department of Environmental Conservation-operated campgrounds and day use areas; discounts on campsites, cabins and state boat launch sites; entrance into arboretums, historic sites and park preserves without charge; greens fees at state park-operated golf courses as well as swimming pool admission from DEC are waived; this is in addition to existing benefits of an Access Pass that grants qualified disabled veterans discounted use of State Park facilities.
One can access these benefits by showing their NY State DMV photo ID bearing the veteran status designation to employees at all State Park facilities that offer these benefits. Those without this designation can apply online at Office of Parks Recreation and Historic Preservation website to get a complimentary Liberty Pass card.
