The “islands” are linked together by an intricate system of bridges and walkways spanning a central lagoon, making navigation from one island to the next easier and allowing more visitors to quickly experience all that the park offers.

It’s an ingenious system which enables guests to enjoy more attractions faster while making it simpler for navigation around.

Islands of Adventure is best represented by its main entrance – known as the Port of Entry – which is dominated by the Pharos Lighthouse.

Prior to the official opening of Islands of Adventure, Universal held a Preview Center in the New York section of Universal Studios Florida for two years, featuring some of the themes and attractions found within this new park.

On May 28, 1999, the park opened to the public for business. Although opening day was somewhat chaotic due to technical rehearsals and “tinkering,” most expected problems did not arise as anticipated (Barker, 1999).

Islands of Adventure currently features eight themed islands situated around a central lagoon.

Each land represents a different licensed intellectual property: Port of Entry, Marvel Super Hero Island, Toon Lagoon, Jurassic Park, The Lost Continent, Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Seuss Landing are among them. A ninth island was added in 2016 called Skull Island dedicated to King Kong franchise.

The Port of Entry serves as the main entry to Islands of Adventure.

Here, guests can purchase souvenirs and get their bearings for the day while also making use of standard guest services such as Information, Stroller/Scooter Rentals and Locker Rentals. In addition, several restaurants and merchandise stores can be found near this area.

At peak times, lines to this part of the park can often be extremely long for its main attraction – and for good reason!

This area is one of the best spots in which to meet Marvel and DC characters from throughout the day in various locations on the island, including queued areas where meet and greets take place as well as roaming characters who roam its walkways.

Restaurants

Islands of Adventure Preview Centre offers an assortment of dining options, ranging from fast-food and pizza to seafood and coffee shops and food carts.

Additionally, most restaurants serve alcohol with many offering Coca-Cola Freestyle refilling souvenir mugs throughout the resort.

Visitors are allowed to bring food and beverages into the park; however large coolers or anything requiring heating should be avoided.

Universal Orlando’s Islands of Adventure is an amusement park featuring themed islands that provide a wide variety of rides and attractions.

Constructed around a lagoon, each island of this theme park was originally six in number but in 2010 The Wizarding World of Harry Potter was added.

The park provides guests with an extensive range of dining options, from counter service and buffet restaurants to full service ones.

When budgeting meals at these establishments, make sure that any costly eateries are taken into consideration; most offer alcohol; some offer beer/wine pairings while others provide full bars.

At the park there are also various fast-food outlets offering delicious fare. Notable among these is Green Eggs and Ham Cafe which offers some of the finest tater tots found anywhere in a theme park; other popular choices are Croissant Moon Bakery and Confisco Grille.

Attraction Park offers more than traditional theme park fare; in addition, guests can also experience unique dining experiences, such as at the Leaky Cauldron and Three Broomsticks restaurants.

At Three Broomsticks, their menu specializes in British fare such as fish and chips and shepherd’s pie; additionally, guests can sample alcohol selections at Hog’s Head Pub.

The park also offers family-oriented activities like the Incredible Hulk Coaster and Caro-Seuss-el.

Annual events held here include Grinchmas and Islands of Adventure summer events; however, some older attractions have been removed in order to make space for newer ones.

Shopping

Prior to Universal Orlando Resort’s official opening on May 28, 1999, guests at Universal Studios Florida could visit the Islands of Adventure Preview Center located on the grounds of Screen Test Home Video Adventure.

Visitors were given an idea of its themes and attractions before it officially became known as Universal Orlando Resort. There was even a model of the park on display and souvenir shop selling character toys and costumes!

As you progress through this area, you will pass by both a main merchandise store on your left as well as smaller merch locations on the right, before coming upon a lower terrace with the lagoon behind it – perfect for taking stunning pictures!

Finally, on the opposite side of the lagoon can be found the main entrance of the park; ride hire transportation users should enter here first since this will reduce wait time to enter!

Islands of Adventure was an assemblage of intellectual properties when it opened in 1999; Port of Entry featured pulp adventure, Seuss Landing was picture book brought to life, The Lost Continent contained Greek mythology, Arthurian legend, Sinbad from One Thousand and One Nights as well as Saturday morning cartoons and comic strips and Toon Lagoon was Saturday morning cartoons and comic strips before Jurassic Park provided sci-fi dinosaurs a home.

Universal had initially created some elaborate explanation for how these disparate properties came together around a lagoon but over time this explanation has disintegrated as they’ve added more lands – becoming less compelling overall than initially.

Islands of Adventure stands out from its Studio counterpart in that it doesn’t need to follow trends in movie box office performance, like Studio parks do. This gives Islands of Adventure something no other Universal park does: timelessness.

Its worlds and characters remain relevant with generations old and young enjoying these experiences together; making Islands of Adventure one of Universal Orlando Resort’s true classic theme park experiences!
