By Hulk, located in the Islands of Adventure, is a Bolliger and Mabillard sitdown coaster, first opened for business in 1999 and recently underwent extensive refurbishments including new onboard music, storyline updates and queue changes.
Volunteer guests to take part in a military science experiment led by General Thaddeus Ross (one of Hulk’s arch-enemies). Following an injection of Gamma radiation, you are catapulted into frenzy and rendered “Hulk-afied”. Get ready for one wild ride!
Theme – Incredible Hulk
Universal Orlando is an ideal destination for thrill-seekers looking to push the envelope, offering some of the world’s most intense roller coasters like Incredible Hulk Coaster and VelociCoaster that feature massive drops and backward motion. However, for beginners or those preferring something less extreme Revenge of the Mummy is an excellent alternative with its Egyptian theme that tells a tale.
Bolliger & Mabillard of Switzerland constructed and opened The Incredible Hulk Coaster on May 28, 1999, providing riders with seven inversions on a launched roller coaster ride that has an advanced launch system to reach 40 mph within just two seconds of leaving its launch lift hill. As this attraction was the first themed after Marvel superheroes using an advanced launch system it underwent refurbishment between 2015 and 2016 which included new track pieces, ride cars and audio as well as creating an enhanced storyline and queue experience for riders.
Before riding the Incredible Hulk Coaster, guests are required to store any loose articles – including backpacks – in lockers located to the right of the queue line, near its entrance. All riders must also pass through a metal detector.
Original to this ride was its invitation for guests to become alternate versions of Incredible Hulk by being exposed to gamma radiation, simulating what Bruce Banner experienced when becoming Hulk. But since its refurbishment, General Ross now invites visitors to participate in his experiment testing an enhanced Hulk version.
Fall Out Boy frontman Patrick Stump composed an all-new soundtrack for this redesigned ride, adding another dimension of fun and enhancing its theme and storyline, which now more heavily emphasizes scientific experimentation. The in-seat speakers play this new soundtrack and add another fun layer to the roller coaster experience. The music adds another level of story telling.

Ride
Hulk is an incredible launch roller coaster located at Universal Islands of Adventure’s Marvel Super Hero Island area that takes riders to the brink. Designed and constructed by Bolliger & Mabillard (B&M), this ride was the first ever themed after comic book superheroes; known for its tubular green track, launch tunnel, and massive cobra roll over a lagoon lagoon. It opened for business with the park in 1999.
Guest can board one of six trains and are propelled from zero to 40 mph in only two seconds as they ascend the enclosed 11 story lift tower. Following a quick turnaround, they dive down into one of seven inversions on this ride: an incredible double inversion cobra roll over water and two towering loops. In addition, this incredible coaster features an intense mid-course brake run leading into a small block brake which gives an unnerving feeling before continuing its course through more inversions, two corkscrews before finally concluding its journey in an airborne helix above lagoon.
Riders are encouraged to let out a guttural “groar” during this unique ride experience and it offers thrills unlike any other. Universal asked B&M to add sound design elements, so instead of filling the support columns of this coaster with sand as many other new B&M roller coasters do, B&M left them empty during construction so they could resonate as they went through its loops with that characteristic groan that gives the illusion that you are being torn apart by The Incredible Hulk himself!
After an extensive refurbishment that started in September 2015, The Incredible Hulk Coaster reopened to the public in 2016. During this time, its towering loops were completely disassembled and rebuilt using salvaged pieces from its initial version of attraction. Furthermore, queue improvements included new entrance plaza and updated indoor queue features such as Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump music onboard the ride as well as lighting.

Your adventure begins when you enter a sleek green vehicle fitted with shoulder restraints and seat belts for up to 32 passengers, the ride begins immediately accelerating from zero to 40 mph in just 2 seconds before diving into an zero-g roll followed by cobra roll racing through 2 corkscrews; finally the track extends 3,700 feet offering seven inversions throughout its course!
The Incredible Hulk Coaster features an innovative tire-propelled launch system consisting of 230 electrical motors that use drive tires to pinch underside of train for propulsion, necessitating multiple customized motor generators in order to supply enough energy. Without these generators, Universal would have had to construct an entire power substation and risk dimming local lights with every launch!
To understand the magnitude of these g-forces, we employed our X16 data logger to collect vibration data and display it on a graphical user interface. You can see below that The Incredible Hulk Coaster acceleration was considerably greater than other similar rides at Islands of Adventure; additionally, its graph also displays when riders experienced increased g-forces; as well as when it produced its unique “roar noise”, detected as a 196Hz frequency peak by our X16 logger and specifically unique to this ride.

Height Requirements

When visiting with children, most ride height requirements at Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure fall between 36″-48″.
